Walking in Faith Daily: Living Like Jesus
Christianity isn't just going to church on Sundays. It's a lifestyle—following Jesus every day, in every situation. Let's discover what it really means to walk as Jesus walked.
What Does It Mean to Follow Jesus?
Jesus gave us a clear command before He returned to heaven:
Notice that last part: "teaching them to observe ALL things that I have commanded you." This means:
- The same things Jesus commanded His disciples, He commands us
- We're supposed to DO what Jesus did, not just know about it
- Christianity is active, not passive
- Following Jesus affects every area of your life
Normal Christianity: What Jesus Actually Did
Look at how Jesus lived:
- He talked to people about God everywhere—not just in church
- He prayed for the sick and they got healed
- He had supernatural knowledge about people
- He cast out demons
- He spoke with authority
- He loved everyone, even His enemies
- He served people
- He spent time alone with the Father
Now here's what Jesus said:
Read that again. Jesus said YOU will do the same works He did—and even greater! This isn't just for pastors or "super Christians." This is for every believer.
Starting Small: Your First Steps in Witnessing
Maybe you're thinking, "I could never do that. I'm too shy. I don't know enough. I'll mess up."
Good news: Everyone starts somewhere. One believer's first attempt at witnessing went like this: He went to the mall determined to talk to someone about Jesus. He walked around for TWO HOURS and couldn't get the courage to say anything. He went home feeling like a failure.
But here's the thing—he went. He tried. And the more he did it, the easier it got. Not because he got better, but because he learned to rely on the Holy Spirit.
- Go with someone experienced first: Watch how they do it
- Start with prayer: Ask God to lead you to someone
- Begin with people you know: Family, friends, coworkers
- Just tell your story: Share what Jesus did for you
- Ask questions: "Do you believe in God?" "Can I pray for you?"
- Don't worry about having all the answers: The Holy Spirit will help you
- Be consistent: Make it a regular practice, not a one-time thing
Love: The Key to Everything
Here's a secret that changes everything: When you focus on loving people, fear disappears.
One believer struggled with:
- Fear of rejection
- Nervousness
- Worry about what to say
- Self-consciousness
- Trying to please people
Then the Holy Spirit spoke to him while he was witnessing: "Love him."
When he focused on genuinely loving the person in front of him—caring about their soul, their eternity, their life—all the fear left. It was like a bird flying away.
Loving Like Jesus Means:
- Caring about their eternity: You want them to know Jesus
- Seeing their value: They're made in God's image
- Being patient: Not getting frustrated if they don't understand
- Serving them: Looking for ways to help
- Speaking truth: Even when it's uncomfortable
- Not arguing: You're not trying to win a debate; you're sharing life
Living It Out: Practical Ways to Walk in Faith
1. At School or Work
- Work with excellence—as if working for Jesus, not people
- Be honest, even when no one's watching
- Don't participate in gossip or crude jokes
- Be the one who encourages others
- Pray for your classmates/coworkers
- Look for opportunities to share what God's doing in your life
2. With Your Family
- Honor your parents (even if they're not believers)
- Serve without being asked
- Control your tongue—no disrespect
- Pray for your family members
- Let them see the change in you
- Share your testimony when appropriate
3. With Your Friends
- Don't compromise your values to fit in
- Invite them to church
- Be willing to lose friendships that pull you away from God
- Speak up when Jesus is mocked
- Pray with friends who are going through hard times
- Be the friend who points people to Jesus
4. In Public/Everyday Life
- Pray for people you see (silently or out loud)
- Strike up conversations with strangers
- Ask waiters/cashiers, "How can I pray for you?"
- Offer to pray for people right there on the spot
- Wear Christian shirts that start conversations
- Be kind to everyone—let Jesus shine through you
The Power of Your Testimony
You have something powerful that no one can argue with: your story. What has Jesus done in your life?
- Before: What was your life like before Jesus? (Keep it brief, don't glorify sin)
- The Encounter: How did you meet Jesus? What happened?
- After: How has your life changed? What's different now?
- The Invitation: They can experience the same thing!
Example: "I was living for myself—partying, doing drugs, broken relationships. I felt empty even though I had everything I thought I wanted. Then I cried out to God and He met me. A prophet spoke over my life and I knew God was real. Now I have peace, purpose, and joy. Jesus can do the same for you."
Dealing with Difficult Situations
When Family Cuts You Off
Sometimes family members will distance themselves when you become a Christian—especially if they're living in ways that contradict the Bible.
This isn't your fault. Jesus warned this would happen. Your response:
- Love them anyway: Pray for them daily
- Live the truth: Let your changed life speak
- Speak truth in love: Don't compromise, but don't be harsh
- Stay available: Keep the door open for reconciliation
- Trust God's timing: He's working even when you can't see it
When Friends Mock You
Don't be surprised when friends make fun of your faith. Jesus said it would happen.
Your response:
- Don't be ashamed—be bold
- Respond with love, not anger
- Bless those who curse you
- Keep praying for them
- Find new Christian friends who will encourage you
When God's Timing is Uncertain
Sometimes God doesn't work on your timeline. You pray for something and... nothing happens. What do you do?
Remember the story of Lazarus: Mary and Martha sent word to Jesus that their brother was sick. They expected Jesus to come immediately and heal him. Instead, Jesus stayed where He was for 2 more days. By the time He arrived, Lazarus had been dead for 4 days.
Mary and Martha thought Jesus was too late. But Jesus had a bigger plan—He didn't just want to heal Lazarus; He wanted to resurrect him!
What to do while waiting:
- Keep praying—don't give up
- Stay faithful in the small things
- Trust that God is working behind the scenes
- Remember past times He came through for you
- Declare His promises over your situation
Living with God's Peace
The world seeks temporary peace—avoiding problems, staying comfortable, having everything go their way. But God offers something better:
This is peace that doesn't make sense. Peace in the middle of the storm. Peace when everything's falling apart. Peace that the world can't understand.
Remember when Jesus slept in the boat during the storm? The disciples were freaking out, waves crashing, boat filling with water. And Jesus was asleep on a cushion. Why? Because He had perfect peace—He knew His Father was in control.
- Pray about everything—give it all to God
- Thank God in advance for the answer
- Remind yourself of God's faithfulness
- Speak Scripture over your situation
- Choose to trust, even when you don't understand
- Keep your eyes on Jesus, not the storm
Final Encouragement: Keep Going!
Walking in faith daily isn't always easy. You'll have good days and hard days. You'll have victories and struggles. But here's the truth:
God is committed to finishing what He started in you. Your job is just to keep walking, keep trusting, keep obeying, keep loving.
